Press Release: NUJ rally in support of Suzanne Breen
6 June 2009
Just a note to advise you that the NUJ is staging a major rally outside the Laganside Court, Belfast on Thursday, June 11th 2009 to coincide with the appearance of Suzanne Breen at the Recorders' Court. NUJ members and supporters are gathering from 9.15 a.m.
The action of the PSNI in demanding that Suzanne Breen hand over confidential notes and data is of major international significance and it is important that the NUJ demonstrates our solidarity with Suzanne and the Sunday Tribune. The right to protect confidential sources of information is of fundamental importance and is a core tenet of journalism.
Play your part by attending outside the court on Thursday next, June 11th. NUJ placards will be available. Assembly from 9.15 a.m.
If you have not already done so sign the petition in support of the principle of protecting sources on: firstname.lastname@example.org. Contact your local parliamentary representative to seek support for Suzanne.
Note: For those travelling from the Republic Ronan Brady, Irish Executive Council is hoping that a group will travel by train. The train leaves from Dublin Connolly at 7.35 a.m. arriving in Belfast Central at 9.45 a.m. Those travelling by train can join the protest, which will be led by NUJ President James Doherty.
