Correspondence: War and climate change
16 April 2022
It's a small measure we could all follow but feel its effectiveness would be insignificant as the impending climate catastrophe is fuelled not by length of showers but the colossal annual arms spend. Last year it was 2 trillion! The US Department of Defence is the largest single consumer of energy in the US and the US military consumes more than 270,000 barrels of oil per day, more than most countries.
The 7-year war on Yemen and now the Ukraine war are human and environmental catastrophes.
I suggest to Eamon Ryan and the green party that he use his influence to stop these wars as the most effective way to radically reduce climate emissions, save lives and the environment.
Yours,
Anne Conway
