Media reports said about 6,000 people took part in a protest march to the US Consulate in Belfast last Saturday (04/11/23) making it the largest to be held in the city to date. Protesters gathered at Queens University and then marched to the Consulate building in the Stranmillis area. There were several speeches at the start and the end of the march.

A student representative from Queens University said students and staff should call for the removal of Biden ally and arch war monger Hillary Clinton as chancellor of QUB.

Some speakers called for supporters of the Palestinian cause to see this latest outbreak of US supported Israeli aggression in a wider context, as an attack on the working class of all countries and an escalation of imperialism and militarism.

In general, the speeches offered little in the way of concrete strategy and. The formulations which are promoted, such two-state solution and boycotts, have been rendered void by the enormity of what is now unfolding.

While public sympathy for the besieged people of Gaza has been strong in Ireland an anti-imperialist coalition still needs to be built.

Belfast Anti War Group were present and gave out several hundred leaflets the text of which can be read here.
